Ummmm, as of today friday 9-17-2010, http://www.weather.gov says 80% chance of RAIN(not showers) on Sunday in Salem Oregon, which has followed a trend of increasing probability all week. However, many times in the past when I have noticed this trend increase abruptly, it's almost as if the storm is in a hurry to get here and get things done and over with. So, we might get lucky if it rains hard tonight, Saterday or Saterday night. I'll keep my eyes on www.weather.gov.So, like, um, that's uhh, all I have for now -P

OK, let's do it on Sept 19th then. Salem Soap Box Derby. Spread the word:Unsanctioned, un-permitted, drop-in slalom event. Open to all (with helmets). Jam format. 2 courses. At least one will be timed.Plan on being there to help set up about 1000, race at 1100The track is not being used by the Soap Box Derby people. There is no guarantee that the hill is free for us to use. A picnic or track meet could get in our way .......

Pat, Sunday the 19th would work for me, I don't know about everyone else.If you want to do it, I would still post it on the Contest Calender and post on the general "slalom" forum as well(so someone else will post something in addtion to my rant and tribute to Howard Gordon). Is the Seattle Contigent, er, um, cough, um, Stryker/Jackman, cough, um still thinking of an event in the Seattle area in August or Sept? I'll be gone Aug 22-Sept 3rd and again Sept late in the month for a week. Thanks - Paul

Hmmm, I'll have to check the calender at home but that sounds sorta fun to me. I actually got out and slalomed before work this morning, it felt pretty good. Das Schlater(That's German for "later", really)- Paul

The Soap Box Derby hill is not being used on Sep 18-19. On either day we could drop in, set cones and timers, and have a race. I'll get it going if there is interest.

Well I hope I make it to the fast and furious race.....The address given on the contest calendar says 119611 92nd Ave E Graham WA ..... but mapquest can't find it. I'm hoping I can figure out how to get there.Doesn't matter -- I'm sick today and can't make it.

It's official: With all of the old guys attending the Oregon State Games, I need to hack into the Trackmate timer. Since it only outputs seconds and 1/1000 seconds, I need to add outputs for minutes and hours.

Did you see how many people from California are coming to the race? (Cat, Norski, Ravitch, Richy, Eric T., Chris Yandall .... etc) Plus the Tactis team has yet to sign up.Maybe we should call this the Northern, Northern CA State Games?

Thank you, Paul!It was a great time. Good courses, sunshine, 70 degrees. Lots of riders, both old friends and new slalomers. A perfect skating, eating, and hanging-out day. It was great to see Thor, Mel, Subsonic Scott, Josh, Brad, Corey, Skip, Strikeforce, and lots of young DH guys.I know I will be sore tomorrow, but that was a blast.

Cascade Slalom Crew:Who volunteers to bring ramps to Oregon State Games?Who volunteers to run the "Beginner/Kids" race at the beginning of each day?Paul, can you volunteer to set courses? Can I get a volunteer to arrange for a hotel discount for the out-of-towners?If there were a volunteer to arrange this, I think it might be swell to have a party or dinner, or other get-together after the racing is done on Saturday.Other than that, I think I have the rest covered.
